Laufey is an Icelandic‑Chinese musician, songwriter, producer, and multi‑instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. She won the Grammy® for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for “A Matter of Time” at the 68th Grammy Awards.
After winning for Bewitched at the 2024 awards, Laufey became the youngest artist ever to take home the category. That win marked her second victory in the same category.
“A Matter of Time” debuted at No. 1 on the Jazz Albums chart, where it remains in the top 10. The album also reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 in August and received widespread critical acclaim.
On this album, Laufey further solidifies her distinct sound, free from rigid conventions yet shaped by the artists who inspire her. She worked with two co‑producers on the project.
Spencer Stewart, who collaborated with Laufey on her first two albums, provided a familiar and reassuring presence. In contrast, one new to her but deeply attuned to artists looking to open up: Aaron Dessner (Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran).
She was able to explore sometimes harsher themes and reveal new aspects of herself because she felt sonically unrestricted.
The victory adds to her historic year, which has already included a successful tour across the United Kingdom. Her European tour is set to begin later this month, with multiple dates already confirmed. In April, she will return to the United States to perform at Coachella.
Additionally, her debut children’s book, “Mei Mei The Bunny,” will be published by Penguin Random House on April 21.
