Dash Hammerstein, folk pop singer-songwriter and acclaimed composer released, “The Hammer” music video.
Dash Hammerstein, a folk pop singer-songwriter and renowned composer released a new music video titled “The Hammer.”
The song is a lighthearted and humorous song about dealing with uncertainty. The song centers on a question asking whether to pull back the hammer or wait for a train around the bend.
Whether the hammer signals a starter pistol or real gun drastically alters or dark meaning and remaining deliberately open to debate. Because what lies around the bend is unknown, the race either stands ready to begin or dangerously close to ending entirely. Dash confides.
The song is accompanied by an unusual and captivating music video.
Dash has composed music for numerous networks, including Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and PBS. Additionally, he has released folk‑pop albums influenced by The Kinks. He has also composed neo‑classical music licensed for international commercial campaigns by brands such as Toyota and Adidas.
He crafts compositions inspired by the raw, eccentric melodicism of artists like Moondog and Brian Eno. His work blends these influences with a contemporary production approach. Beyond scoring films for Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and PBS, his work debuted at Sundance, Tribeca Film Festival, and DOC NYC internationally.
Additionally, he has released ten studio albums spanning folk pop and neo‑classical music, drawing influence from artists like The Kinks. Global brands including Toyota and Adidas have licensed his work for international advertising campaigns.
He has become more active in NYC’s theater industry in recent years, contributing to and advising on several upcoming musical”s.
“The Hammer” appears on his upcoming self-titled album, Dash Hammerstein, produced during a period of experimentation and newly discovered creative sobriety. It is his most honest compilation of songs to date. “No more word salad psychedelia,” says Dash.
Every song is about something specific and meaningful, whether it’s death, uncertainty, old friends, or new biotech. With sobriety, I shifted my songwriting hours from night to morning and wrote much of the album quickly over coffee, capturing a lot of first‑ and best‑thought material. Additionally, there are some fantastic guest performances: Alden Harris-McCoy plays some guest guitar, Jordi Nus plays strings, and Michael Sachs plays woodwinds and brass. I recorded and mixed everything in a couple Brooklyn studios.
