A Broken Team in IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 6

IT: Welcome to Derry episode 6 opens in 1935 at Juniper Hills, where young Mabel sleepwalks after Ingrid Kersch leads her downstairs. The basement waits in eerie silence until a red balloon drifts by and Pennywise finally emerges.

Back in the present, Leroy is still drowning in guilt over Pauly’s death. He lashes out at Will for going into the sewers, but Will snaps back and swears he’s nothing like his father—he wouldn’t let his friends die. Leroy responds with a slap, and Will bolts out the door.

Convinced Pennywise is messing with his mind, Will jumps on his bike and speeds across town. Leroy, left behind, can’t keep his emotions in check.

Meanwhile at the hideout, Lilly reveals the mystical dagger that saved her before. She’s made it out of the sewers, but she wants the whole group to go back down and finish Pennywise for good.

However, Ronnie refuses. She calls Lilly reckless, and the two explode into a full fight. Rich tries to calm them down, but nobody listens. In the end, the tension wins, and the group splits apart—each heading off alone.

Ghosts and Guilt Lingers

Meanwhile, Dick takes the boys back to the Black Spot. He’s a wreck—unable to sleep, think straight, or separate his visions from reality. Dead bodies keep showing up around the airbase, and Leroy grows more worried by the minute. He finds Dick curled up in a dark room with the curtains shut tight. Dick explains that the Shining is wide open now, and Pennywise has unleashed every ghost trapped inside his mind. Worse, the dead carry knowledge the living don’t.

When Leroy presses him about whether those ghosts might know where Pennywise is hiding, Dick shuts down. He snaps, calls Leroy selfish, and eventually kicks him out.

Hank is also laying low at the Black Spot, and he gets a warm welcome when Ronnie arrives with Will, thanks to a ride from Charlotte. Watching Ronnie and Hank reconnect hits Will hard.

Charlotte pulls Leroy aside and reveals Hank’s hiding place. She warns him that she plans to move Hank out of town in the morning. For now, she urges Leroy to stop running from his mistakes and fix things with Will.

The Secrets in Town

At school, Lilly drifts further from the group and slips back into her visions. She jolts upright in the middle of class, gripping the magic dagger, and screams at her desk. The teacher scolds her, but Lilly storms out with the dagger still in hand. Meanwhile, Rich and Marge grow closer, and Marge finally stands up to Patty, choosing the new Losers Club instead.

After classes, everyone gathers at the Black Spot—everyone except Lilly, who wanders off alone. Needing answers, she seeks out Ingrid and sneaks into her house. She climbs to the attic and goes through photos and odd trinkets. The truth becomes clear: Ingrid is the woman in the cemetery photos. She followed the kids in disguise, wearing a wig and dressing as Periwinkle, hoping Pennywise would appear.

Ingrid reveals that her father once performed as “Pennywise the Dancing Clown.” She loved him deeply, but when he left with the carnival, she stayed behind in Derry. Later, when kids in the asylum—like Mabel in 1935—spoke of Pennywise, Ingrid started digging. But by bringing Mabel to the basement, she unknowingly delivered her straight to the creature. Pennywise preyed on her grief, tricking her into luring more children so she could believe her father had returned.

Lilly has heard more than enough. She runs out of the house, jumps on her bike, and screams into the wind as she speeds away.

Meanwhile, the town grows restless. People want Hank found, and fast. Clint arrives with news: someone tipped them off about Hank’s location. IT: Welcome to Derry episode 6 closes with panic spreading through Derry, the townsfolk gather their things and march toward the Black Spot, determined to drag him back.

IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 6 Review

IT: Welcome to Derry drops another strong episode this week, and it’s easily one of the season’s standouts. The show leans into stylish cinematography again, especially with those black-and-white flashbacks where streaks of red and yellow slip through. That tiny pop of color makes the scenes feel even more unsettling.

We also get the full picture of Ingrid’s role in all of this. She never meant to help Pennywise, yet she still became part of Its cycle—feeding It children without realizing it. IT: Welcome to Derry episode 6 hints at bigger mysteries too, like what really happened to Bob and what went down with Ingrid’s father at the carnival. There’s definitely a deeper reason Pennywise appears in that form, and it feels like the show is saving those answers for a future season.

On the character’s side, the tension is sky-high. Ronnie snaps at Lilly, Marge finally pushes back against Patty, and Will tries to convince Ronnie to head back into the sewers. The kids aren’t the only ones spiraling either. The adults are cracking under the pressure, and with Pennywise tightening its grip, things are getting messy fast.

IT: Welcome to Derry episode 6 is the strongest episode yet. It nails the character beats, the performances land, and the scares actually hit. If the rest of the season keeps this pace, we’re in for a solid finish.

Catch the next episode of IT: Welcome to Derry on December 7, 2025. New episodes come out every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
