Waiting almost three years for Alice in Borderland season 3 was definitely worth it. The final season brought extreme and mind-bending games to the screen, while the heartbreaking deaths of beloved characters truly pierced through the hearts of viewers.
Alice in Borderland season 3 released its six episodes on September 25, 2025, via Netflix. This season marked the finale of the series, and it absolutely delivered an intense and satisfying ending. The final season explores the lives of Arisu (played by Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (played by Tao Tsuchiya) after they chose to live in the real world rather than becoming citizens of the Borderland.
In this season, Arisu and Usagi are shown as a married couple in the real world. However, Arisu is forced to return to the Borderland after Usagi ends up back there with Ryuji (portrayed by Kento Kaku). Once again, they face deadly games where their lives are at stake.
Apart from the nerve-wracking games, Season 3 also left us with devastating heartbreaks. The previous seasons of the series gave us unforgettable deaths, but this time, it didn’t just strike us—it carved a scar that lingers. Here are the players who took a step toward the death door during the games.

Who Died in Alice in Borderland season 3?
Kazuya

Kazuya, a Yakuza member, is one of the new faces in Alice in Borderland Season 3. His tough physique and intimidating aura somewhat resemble Aguni (a player from the previous season). Kazuya’s death was something I wasn’t emotionally prepared for, as I really had high hopes of him surviving given his background.
During the Kick the Can game, when only two cans remained, Kazuya chose to put Arisu first. As the last member of Arisu’s team who hadn’t succeeded yet, he fought hard for the final can. However, with other players teaming up to corner him, and even after being stabbed twice, he stood no chance.
In the end, Kazuya looked at Arisu and the rest of his teammates with a faint smile. What devastated me most about his death was the fact that I didn’t even like him in the early episodes because of his twisted decisions. But I guess people with a tough exterior often have the softest hearts—and that got me (even cried hard after his death and had to take a pause).
Natsu

Natsu is another interesting player introduced this season. She’s a novice dancer in the real world, which explains her flexible moves during the games. While trying to survive the Kick the Can, Natsu witnessed Shion—whom she considered her older sister—explode right in front of her.
Devastated by Shion’s death, Natsu tried to advance to the next round by bringing the can to its base. However, another female player stopped her, and they both ended up dying when the can exploded. To me, Natsu’s death felt unnecessary, especially after Shion had already been killed. I’d grown to like her character ever since the first game (Sacred Fortune), and even more during Zombie Hunt, where she helped Nobu.
Natsu’s death was too sudden, and I feel like if she had survived this game, she could have really aced the other games. She also gave off a vibe similar to Kuina (a previous player).

Sohta

To be honest, Sohta’s character irritated me, especially after he kept constantly sacrificing his points for his sister, Yuna. The final game, Possible Future, required players to strategize in order to find the exit door. Each player had 15 points, and once their points ran out, the game was over for that player.
During this game, Sohta and Yuna chose not to follow Arisu’s instructions because of the future they saw. Every time they entered a room, Sohta would volunteer to have his points deducted (which frustrated me the most). Eventually, he and Yuna had to take separate doors, and with the most unfortunate luck, Sohta entered a room with a large point deduction that left him with a negative total.
As per the rules, the game ended for Sohta. I felt like he could have survived if, just once, he had put himself first. Yes, I understand he cared for his sister, but sacrificing himself over and over did him no good. Still, part of me wishes I had a brother like Sohta—someone who would do anything for me.
Tetsu

One of the best characters this season, in my opinion. Tetsu, another member of Arisu’s team, was a drug addict in the real world. But in the Borderland, he became one of the most helpful (and funniest) players. During the Possible Future, Tetsu was left alone in a room.
This triggered his addiction, especially after watching glimpses of his possible futures. In one, he saw Yukiko, his former love; in another, he died from overstimulation due to drugs. Confused and hallucinating, he ended up entering a room with an eight-point deduction, even though he only had seven points left.
After falling into the negatives, the game was over for Tetsu. His collar exploded and killed him instantly. His death was truly heartbreaking for me because I found him to be such an interesting character. He balanced the heavy tension of each episode with his goofy banters—and without him, the show felt a little emptier.
Ryuji Matsuyama

I never liked Ryuji. He’s a twisted, self-centered character. But I won’t deny the impact he had this season. Ryuji survived all the games in Alice in Borderland Season 3; however, he wasn’t able to survive his own mind.
In the real world, Ryuji wanted to find the land of death. This fueled his decision to bring Usagi back to the Borderland because of Banda’s promise to him. In the last episode, a vortex appeared when Shibuya was flooded. Initially, he planned to bring Usagi with him, but after seeing Arisu and Usagi fight so hard to survive, he chose to die alone.
His death had me torn, but I guess even a death I saw coming still hurts—especially because his character carried a deep wound that probably no one else knew.

Shion

Shion is a new player this season. I honestly wasn’t able to appreciate her character much, aside from her being a good sister to Natsu and a loyal teammate in Arisu’s group. During Kick The Can, Shion attempted to use a false can, but she still didn’t succeed in putting it back.
A man cornered her, and unfortunately, the two of them exploded as the time ran out. Her death was unforeseen, I swear. While watching that scene, I really thought she’d make it. But then the sudden “boom” sound played—another player had died.
Masato

Masato is one of the players in Arisu’s team. In the real world, he’s a middle school teacher. During the Zombie Hunt, Masato met his tragic end when he became a zombie. Even after the alliance that Arisu and Rei had established, Ikeno (the leader of the humans) turned the whole situation around.
A player from Ikeno’s team shot Masato with a shotgun, killing him instantly. Although Masato’s death was surprising, I believe that if he had survived longer, we would’ve seen more of his potential and skills in other games.
Banda Sunato

To be honest, Banda’s death wasn’t heartbreaking at all (yes, my rage is speaking here). He’s one of the most irritating characters Alice in Borderland has ever had. His self-centeredness and greed constantly frustrated me. Not to mention his boastfulness and hostility—I’ve hated him ever since he appeared in the previous season.
But his death still caught me off guard. I actually thought he’d still end up as one of the citizens in the Borderland. However, in the last episode, just as he was about to kill Arisu, a laser from above struck him down instantly. Honestly, Banda’s backstory wasn’t fully explored, which made it even harder to connect with him as a character.
