Bon Appetit, Your Majesty slowly but surely hints at the growing closeness between King Lee Heon and his Royal Chief Cook, Ji-Yeong, through a sudden rendezvous outside the palace.

Bon Appetit, Your Majesty episode 5 picked up right where it left off, with the King and Ji-Yeong in the greenhouse after a stumble caused Ji-Yeong to land on Lee Heon’s chest. It was another awkward moment for the two, but one that clearly highlighted the King’s growing fondness for Ji-Yeong.

Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 6 Recap: It’s Ji-Yeong’s Turn to Give the King a Gift

Ji-Yeong finally recovered her handbag from the future, but a far bigger problem arose. The Manguonrok book that brought her to the Joseon Dynasty had mysteriously gone missing. Heartbroken, Ji-Yeong drowned her sorrows in heavy drinking with the rest of the Royal Kitchen staff.

Just as she was about to lose hope, she held onto His Majesty’s promise that if she won the cooking battle against the Ming Dynasty chefs, he would scour the entire forest to help her. That promise gave her the strength to keep going, even leading her to run errands outside the palace.

Moreover, the greenhouse scene between Ji-Yeong and the King marked a new level in their relationship. Still, he reminded her of the looming challenge, the cooking battle with the Ming envoys. Determined to use chili peppers as her secret weapon, Ji-Yeong left the palace to have them ground into powder. To her surprise, the King decided to accompany her, making the errand far more personal.

Outside the palace and away from the constant presence of royal staff, the two appeared closer than ever. Lee Heon’s attentiveness stood out; he noticed the butterfly chain Ji-Yeong had been eyeing and bought it for her.

In return, Ji-Yeong offered him purple irises to calm his spirit. Though the King initially rejected the gesture and tossed the flowers into the mud, Ji-Yeong’s sincerity shone through as she picked them up again. Softening, he joined her, and the two ended up laughing and playing in the mud, an unexpectedly sweet moment that peeled back his royal guard.

The episode also revealed the official rules of the high-stakes cooking battle. Each side must prepare three dishes and gather all necessary ingredients within just five days. With pride, honor, and trust on the line, episode 6 did not hold back in showing the challenge that holds weight not just for Ji-Yeong, but for the King and the entire Joseon Dynasty.

Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 7: What to Expect

Given the current pace of the series, it is expected that the cooking battle will span more than one episode. Episode 7 will most likely begin with the highly anticipated competition, and the main point of excitement is when both sides finally present a dish representing their dynasties.

For Ji-Yeong, this means unlocking all her culinary knowledge of Chinese food, which she admitted back in episode 5 to be challenging because of its wide diversity. The Ming Dynasty chefs are formidable opponents, and every dish could decide the pride of Joseon.
